First Solid Food — Squash

Eating his first solid food ever.Today Arosha has tried his first ever solid food. Yay to that! I thought for a while that I’ll first introduce him to avocado or banana, but ended up buying butternut squash instead. ) I really wanted to buy organic, but it was not available in nearby stores and since squash is not one of the dirty dozen I bought the regular one. I did get some organic sweet potatoes though, and we’ll try them next week. I am considering ordering from FreshDirect next time I’m shopping for fruits or veggies for Aroshka.

Sporting a nice squash mustache.Irina from Kuking recommended to check Wholsomebabyfood for baby’s food recipes, and I think that it’s a great resource. As recommended on the site, I baked squash in the oven and then pureed it. I used immersion hand blender for this purpose and was very pleased with the results — it was very smooth, and the blender was extremely easy to clean. We froze everything except today’s and tomorrow’s portions in Medela bottles which I bough for freezing my breast milk, but never used for that purpose. I added some breast milk to the puree which we fed to Arosha today.

Yum? Or not yum? Not quite sure.I actually planned to wait with solid food introduction until Arosha was 6 months, but he was just too interested in our food. ) Just yesterday he tried licking my mom’s glass with kevir and got very upset when we took it away. I can’t say that he was ecstatic, but I think that he enjoyed the process. He loves everything new! I was definitely excited to feed him something other than milk. )
