It basically results in a very narrow focus spot and the rest of the photograph has a very shallow depth of field.

However tilt-shift lenses are extremely expensive — prices start from over a $1,000. Luckily the effect can be faked for the most part through post processing.

Original photo.I stumbled upon this tilt-shift stuff a while back and I find it interesting enough to share. I tried faking an effect on one of my pictures through a free online tool and it is pretty damn effective in making the photo appear to be that of a miniature.
