For today Maruk and his family has planned an outing and a cookout in Hempstead Lake State Park. They were kind enough to invite our family to join them and as a result we had a great day.
The park was beautiful — full of green trees that create shade all over the place, it had very few people, was clean and had nice benches and tables for us to use.
The company was great as well — Maruk and Alina really are great friends. They also do have a good family and even though we don’t see them too often it’s always nice to get together with them when it does happen. Maruk was a great cook and did all the work to keep everyone well feed and thus happy.
Arosha got to explore a new place and play with Emma. Even though he still is too little to really socialize I think it’s nice for kids to be near other kids. I was always friends with kids of my parents’ friends. Arosha and Emma will probably and hopefully end up being good friends when they get older as well.

It was a good day indeed, even though I was super tired at the end! I am amazed that it took us only half an hour to get to such a nice park — I though it’s not possible in NYC. Funnily enough majority of the people around us were speaking Russian as well.
Aroshka got fascinated with Emma’s pink bike. He was jumping on it and laughing and acting all kinds of happy. He fell down at the end while trying to reach one of the pedals with both hands — it was hilarious.
On the side note — I get so jealous of people who have grills while reading all the summer cooking magazines (since all of them feature lots of grilling recipes and tips), so it’s nice to be able to be a part of such gatherings for this reason as well. When we buy a house, we’ll definitely get a grill too! Oh, and the skirt steak was even better after we let be tenderized by salt for about 1.5 hours.
And another observation. Aroshka does not play WITH Emma just yet, but he liked to play alongside her. It might seem that he ignores her, but I think he observes and absorbs a lot during such outings.
