Financial Calculator

Texas Instruments BA II Plus Professional CalculatorWe bought me my very first financial calculator last night. The item of choice is BA II Plus Professional Calculator. I like it. ) I only need it for bond calculations so far, but it has a lot of other useful functions (I haven’t quite figured out yet how to use them though). A financial calculator is required in my Investment Analysis class. I think, it might be needed for other more advanced finance courses later on.

The interesting thing is that during a summer semester I had a rare finance professor, who didn’t let students use financial calculators. He wanted us to understand formulas, I guess. I honestly think that his method of teaching was to my advantage. I even enjoyed using all those formulas. -)

Photo Board

Cork Bulletin Board with Photos of FriendsWe made another small addition to our apartment — our office actually. We bought a bulletin board made out of cork and a bunch of push pins at Staples.

Alena picked out a bunch of pictures of all our friends, we ordered the prints from SnapFish.com and pinned them all to the board. The end results looks cool and funky, especially for an office.

Somehow we left out one friend from all this mess by accident, but we will remedy this problem with next set of prints we order! We promise!

Atlantic City and Washington

Lincoln MemorialOur short trip to Atlantic City and Washington has already come to an end, but I think it was a fun one. First of all it was really great to hang out with Ignat and Vika and to play a role of a tour guide (albeit not a great one).

Atlantic City Boardwalk near Taj MahalFirst day was Atlantic City day. We got there rather early only to find out that the pools are open on the weekends only. So we had a long day with not much stuff to do. We gambled a bit by playing on the slot machines of different kinds and then played some more on the “Wheel of Misfortune”. Luck was not really working in our favor (does it ever in casinos?), so we didn’t gamble too much. Read more…

Weekend Getaway

We’ve planned another little mini-vacation for ourselves. Going to repeat one of our earlier trips — Atlantic City and Washington, DC. It’s one of the best routes that we can take on a car and should be very interesting to those who haven’t been to those places yet. This time it’s Vika and Ignat.

We’re taking off on early Thursday morning and going to Atlantic City first. We tried to add a little variation to the trip, so we’re going to be staying at Showboat, instead of Tropicana. In DC however we’re going to stay at the same hotel as last time. It’s hard to beat that location and a pool that’s open until midnight.

On Saturday evening we should be back in NYC. Sunday is designated as “Alena does her homework” day. As 18 credits in a semester is not an easy thing to pull off while maintaining 3.9 average.

The Statue Of Liberty

Мне кажется, он был из Ямайки, но голову на отсечение не дам. mrgreen Он спросил Даню — “Hey, where are you guys all from?”, на что мой муж честно ответил “Brooklyn”, а потом, видно сжалившись над музыкантом, добавил “and before that — from Russia”.

5. Read more…

Meat “Sushi”

Caponata

CaponataI want to recommend one recipe, which I tried out on Danya’s Birthday. I found it in Saveur, one of the magazines that we subscribed to.

Caponata
(Sicilian Sweet-Sour Vegetables)
SERVES 6

This recipe is an adaptation of one in Cucina del Sole: A Celebration of Southern Italian Cooking by Nancy Harmon Jenkins (Morrow, 2007).
