I just spent the last hour browsing through the National Geographic. They have so many interesting and beautiful pictures, like the Visions of Earth series or Top Shots, which are selected from the pictures submitted to the magazine by amateurs.
I wonder how much in a good picture depends on the beauty of the subject, how much on the skill of the photographer, and what’s the share of pure luck?
To travel the world, to see its many wonders has always been one of my biggest dreams. I’m grateful that photography made it possible to see the world though somebody else’ eyes. Some of those pictures make me feel, even if for a split moment, as if I’m a part of something bigger than my everyday life. They make me feel inspired, they make me feel quiet, they bring me into that translucent state of mind (you know, when you think that you understood something important, but then - BOOM - it’s all gone).
I always try to notice little details in the world around me. I think that pictures like the ones featured in NG help to keep focus.

Very prettily said. I’ve had a subscription to the NG magazine almost all of my life, and it really is pretty amazing stuff.
