New Lock

Mul-T-Lock LockYesterday, we finally got a new lock installed on the door. Originally we tried to replace the cylinder on the lock that was on the door before, but after 3 days of trying the lock wasn’t working and pretty much impossible to turn, it wash all loose and the door itself got deformed from us over-tightening the screws.

After doing some reading online I found out that pretty much every lock on the market these days can be opened within 3 seconds by the method called “bumping”. Apparently there are 2 companies which actually make bump-proof locks, or at least they are much harder to crack: Medeco and Mul-T-Lock. Turns out one of the locks on the door is already produced by Medeco, so we bought a Mul-T-Lock as a replacement for our other ones. Instead of cosing $20 this out came out to $200. We also had a professional install it for us, to fix up all the issues that we created.

Now one thing is certain - the joints on the door are going to fall off sooner then this lock. If somebody really wants to get in, they’ll still get in, but we feel good having this on the door. Either way the building itself it pretty safe, having 9 cameras installed in various locations.

Kitchen and Bathroom

KitchenMore pictures from the same series. This time it’s our kitchen and our bathroom. They are both fully renovated. There is nothing expensive here, yet it’s clean and nice. The kitchen floor is made out of nice, thick tiles. It has less shelves then our old one had, however it still appears much more spacey then the old one.

BathroomBathroom has tiles all the way from the floor (including the floors) to the ceiling. Another great thing is that built in closet on the left side. Even though it appears very shallow it in fact goes through the wall and is as deep as it is wide (square shaped) and it goes all the way from the floor to the ceiling.

Bedroom

BedroomThe bedroom still needs a little bit of work, but it already is completely setup and cleaned up. The most noticeable missing thing is a set of curtains on the windows. We don’t want to put the blinds on the windows here, since we’re on the top floor anyhow, and there is nothing across the street. We just want a pair of soft, light, cozy looking curtains.

Later on we might want to add a dresser, if we don’t have enough space. However, the current built-in closet is big enough for now. Might also add something decorative to the walls some time in the future in the form of pictures for example.

BedroomWe decided to keep our old furniture and keep the design of the room in a relaxed style. The rugs on the floors add more warmth and should keep the neighbors downstairs as far away from us as possible. 8O

All in all, this room is much bigger then our old one, and now we don’t even have a desk in there. Feels weird to have this much empty space in a bedroom now.

Window View

Verrazano BridgeHere is the first shot of the view from the window. I used a telephoto lens at 150mm to take a photo of one of the most beautiful structures in Brooklyn: Verrazano Bridge - a bridge that connects Brooklyn with Staten Island.

Day ViewAnd a day shot taken with a wide angle lens to try to capture everything that’s visible from the windows. The view is great and the apartment is very sunny.

BuildingWe are located on the 7th floor of 7 story building. At one point we already thought that we’d have to settle for non-top floor, but then we got lucky. Even though top floor apartments cost more, its always good to know that there is nobody above you, and the view is great.
