New Lock

Mul-T-Lock LockYesterday, we finally got a new lock installed on the door. Originally we tried to replace the cylinder on the lock that was on the door before, but after 3 days of trying the lock wasn’t working and pretty much impossible to turn, it wash all loose and the door itself got deformed from us over-tightening the screws.

After doing some reading online I found out that pretty much every lock on the market these days can be opened within 3 seconds by the method called “bumping”. Apparently there are 2 companies which actually make bump-proof locks, or at least they are much harder to crack: Medeco and Mul-T-Lock. Turns out one of the locks on the door is already produced by Medeco, so we bought a Mul-T-Lock as a replacement for our other ones. Instead of cosing $20 this out came out to $200. We also had a professional install it for us, to fix up all the issues that we created.

Now one thing is certain - the joints on the door are going to fall off sooner then this lock. If somebody really wants to get in, they’ll still get in, but we feel good having this on the door. Either way the building itself it pretty safe, having 9 cameras installed in various locations.
