Честно говоря, поездка в Virginia Beach в этом году не оставила таких ярких впечатлений, как в прошлом. Во-первых, я расстроилась, что Игнат не смог поехать с нами из-за работы. Во-вторых, океан был холоднее чем хотелось бы, поэтому я решилась залезть в него всего один раз. Ну, а в-третьих, я ожидала большего от отеля. Мелочи, как неработающее джакузи, холодный бассейн, чудесный вид на крышу и полученный с боем завтрак оставили лёгкий осадок. А, может, я просто разбаловалась хорошим сервисом и обращаю внимание на мелочи, на которые не стоило бы?
Зато мы посмотрели салют в честь праздника (Memorial Day) с нашего балкончика! Очень красиво.
А еще на нашем этаже был тренажёрный зал и Лёнчик уговорил Даню там позаниматься. Даня наивно согласился, и уже второй день постанывает от боли (приятной, на взляд Лёнчика) в разных частях тела. Я тоже как могла поучаствовала в физическом воспитании ленивцев и толстячков - походила по беговой дорожке. Бегать ненавижу с детства, зато ходить люблю. Скорость я держала в среднем 4.3 мили в час (где-то 6.9 км) и, соответственно, отшагала несколько киллометров за пол часа. Неудивительно, что до метро от нашего дома я дохожу за 10-15 минут, ненамного уступая в скорости автобусу (7 минут).
Всё воскресное утро после завтрака на балконе, мы провалялись в кроватях. Лёнчик поработал гадалкой и фокусником (не могу удержать улыбку, как вспомню). 
Потом пошли купаться в холодный бассейн на крышу. Вот что-что, а вид оттуда был красивый. Боковая стенка сделана из прозрачного материала, и можно было любоваться пляжем и океаном с высоты 21 этажа, сидя прямо в бассейне.
В субботу ходили на ужин в Хибачи ресторанчик - тот же, что и в прошлом году. Даже повар был тот же, и так же, как и в прошлый раз он поинтересовался:
-Where are you from? Russia?
-Йес, Йес, Раша - довольно заулыбались мы,
-What about you? -спросила я,
-Hong Kong! - гордо ответил повар, сверкнув очками.
-Ну, хотя бы не пытается выдать себя за японца - тут же откоментировал кто-то из нас.
И то правда! Не пытался! Кроме китайца там работали болгарин и кореянка (насчёт остальных не знаю). Интересно, есть ли среди хозяев или обслуживающего персонала того места хотя бы один японец?
When we went to Virginia Beach for the first time in 2004 we stumbled upon a small art gallery. We usually check those places out to see if they have anything that we would like to have in our apartment. I’m a big fan of contemporary, abstract art, but I haven’t seen anything that I would like as much as the work of J.C. Kugler that we saw in this gallery.
The father of J.C. Kugler is also an artist, and had his work at the same gallery. However we found that the work of the son was more to our taste, even though J. Kugler’s (father) work is equally impressive.
Anyhow, the first time we were there, we couldn’t really afford to buy anything, since it was the time when Alena just lost her job. When we were there for the second time we didn’t really have any more empty space in our apartment, but we still stopped by the gallery again, to look at what they had there at the moment.
This time around however we had a new apartment, and a wall that was just asking for something like that. There were several different pieces and we picked out 2 that we thought would work the best for us. We ended up paying $450 for both of them framed, but we feel it’s worth it for a pair of original art works by a known artist. We wanted to get them for a long time now, so we finally did it.

А еще я сразу вспомнила Star Track, как мы смотрели за завтраком. Космические мотивы и все такое : )
Многие известные художники тоже примерно так и продавались среди своих современников. Не помню, кто-то вообще своими картинами расплачивался за долги за еду в каком-то ресторанчике. А хозяин ресторанчика брал эти «ненужные» картины только из милосердия. В жизни всякое бывает.
Вот потом будет вашим детям приятность : )

Я тоже помню о художнике, который расплачивался картинами. Кажется, о нём рассказывали на уроках по искусству в средней школе. Но тоже не помню его имени, хоть и уверенна, что оно у всех на слуху.
А мысли о космосе картины и правду навевают. Наверное, из-за сфер, которые ассоциируются с планетами.
А вообще я рада, что они тебе понравились.

i just bought a jc kugler painting.
i was chatting with this guy who had just opened up this art gallery at my local mall.
i commented on the talents of the artist who had done some of the abstract paintings (i had never heard of kugler), and the guy got the biggest smile on his face and said that he was the painter.
so i think i actually met him.
he signed the back of the painting to me.
i’m just not 100% sure it was legit. i mean, i just have his word.
i think the painting is an original. the signiture on the back matches one i found online. it isn’t anything like the one on the front, but just like the one i saw on a certificate of authenticity that was included on one of his paintings up for auction on some random site. i think a con would have tried to match the sig on the front.
my main concern is that it maybe is a print.
i don’t know how to tell.
except for the thin, squigly white line that goes over the top, nothing else has texture, and there are no brush-strokes visible.
is this similar to anyone elses kugler pieces?

Andy I have 2 Paintings one is 36″x48″ and a 20 x 24 framed painting from J kugler with Authenticity papers. They are purplish in color if you like i can email you pictures.I’m asking $500 for large and $200 for small.

Sometimes we just dont think. I left a bad relationship and walked with nothing after seventeen years. The one thing however that I wanted was my painting done by J. Kugler and his father. I didnt get it, so If anyone knows of a shop where his work is sold please let me know. I am in Delaware.

Lynn Haven mall has a gallery opening up soon.
I know demand for his pieces make them kind of hard to come by, but there should be a few left.

Если вам надо целый день сидеть дома (например, готовясь к экзамену по бух. учёту), в холодильнике завалялось пол бутылки красного вина, а природная лень входит в число ваших достоинств, то это блюдо вам придётся по душе.
Вкратце: порезанную крупными кусками свинину, морковь и пару зубчиков чеснока надо положить в кастрюлю с толстым дном, посолить, поперчить, залить всё это дело красным вином и тушить на маленьком огне около 4 часов.
Никогда бы не подумала, что чтение New York Times приведёт меня к плите, но именно так сегодня и получилось. Правда, я как всегда внесла в рецепт некоторые изменения - заменила свинину говядиной (пройти мимо красивого куска говядины по $1.67 за фунт в PathMark оказалось выше моих сил!). И еще, чтобы мясо не получилось уж слишком варёным, я обжарила его прямо в кастрюле (до того, как добавила остальные ингредиенты) в смеси 1 ложки растительного и 1 ложки сливочного масла.
Конечный результат очень нас порадовал. Особенно в прикуску с молодым чесночно-укропным картофелем и сладковатым Peter Luger Steak Sauce.

Мясо получилось на самом деле довольно таки вкусным и очень мягким - даже нож не понадобился. Разве что вино придает ему кисловатый вкус, и поэтому по-моему его как раз хорошо есть со сладковатым соусом.

Сегодня у нас почти годовщина свадьбы. Ну, вернее Сегодня = 1/2 * Годовщина.
Уже сто раз говорила, как быстро летит время. Повторюсь… Летит, только пятки сверкают, да хвост по ветру развивается! Почему-то время мне представилось эдаким озорным чертёнком, который с воплем “А попробуй-ка догони!” несётся вперед и только иногда оглядывается, чтобы показать нам красный высунутый язык.
Так о чём это я? О свадьбе. Вернее, о Семье. Нашей. Как же хорошо быть заМужем!

Да, на самом деле, не успели и моргнуть, а уже пол года пролетело. Кажется что вот только недавно бегали по Лас-Вегасу. Я каждый раз как вспомню — сразу так приятно внутри — хорошо у нас так все со свадьбой получилось. На самом деле воспоминания на всю жизнь.
И вообще счастливый я человек — такую жену отхватить.

For some reason, I’m not quite as satisfied with our restaurant experience lately as I used to be. Chain restaurants, such as Chevys, serve horrible food! Not to leave small crappy places out, there are quite a few of them in Brooklyn too. I try to cook more often, as well as to vary our dinner menu, although, honestly, I’m a long way from being an excellent housewife (don’t think that I have a chance of becoming one any time soon either).
Today, tired of cooking mashed potatoes over and over again, I picked this Beef and Cheese Manicotti Recipe on Food Network. It came out quite tasty! I wasn’t able to buy any manicotti though, so I substituted the required pasta with rigatoni, the closes alternative from the local PathMark store. It took me half an hour to stuff those little bastards though, and I’m not even sure that I had to go through the process. I also added considerably less mozzarella and Parmesan cheeses, and no butter, because I think that otherwise this meal would have been too heavy. And instead of marinara souse I used a little can of stewed tomatoes.

I started looking for a cheap motel somewhere close to Virginia Beach, right on our way, but no matter where I called I heard one thing - all booked, no rooms. Then I tried Orbitz and found a hotel called Kiptopeke Inn for $119 per night. Tried the same search on Expedia, same hotel came up for $109. I decided to call them directly - $99. I have AAA membership, I tell them - $89. Ok, let’s book it!
The hotel is located in Cape Charles, VA, and is 30 miles away from our final destination. We’ll leave as early as possible on Friday, drive most of the way, have a good night sleep, and then in the morning we’re in Virginia Beach. Should be fun!

There were only a couple of available hotels left and one of them was Hilton Virginia Beach Oceanfront. Luckily for everyone involved (Ignat and Lenchik) we had enough points to get it for free on our Hilton card. Otherwise it would’ve cost us $279 per night. Chances are we’re not going to get an ocean-view room, but it doesn’t matter too much. The hotel has a pool and jacuzzi and we can certainly get our hands on a case of Corona Beer.
Currently the plan is to leave Brooklyn very early on the Saturday morning - around 4am or so. However I’m thinking that maybe it makes sense to get a cheap motel somewhere close to Virginia Beach, along our route, so we could drive out on Friday night instead. This way we’ll cover most of the way there, spend the night, and then wake up to a full day of rest. Otherwise we’ll end up driving for at least half of Saturday and probably will be pretty tired by the time we get there.
We should discuss this with Lenchik and Ignat and see what they think. I’m think I’m leaning toward this 2nd option.

Looks like I lied when I said that I’m done posting apartment pictures. We still have tons of improvements to make, and I think I’ll be posting them all.
We put on some curtains in our bedroom. We looked at a lot of places, and it’s quite amazing how many ugly curtains there are out there for sale. And ones that we liked were quoted at $600 with all the needed hardware to us. So we ended up getting some very simple, generic ones at Bed, Bath & Beyond. However they do make room a lot more cozy. And today with the wind blowing they seem very uplifting.

С занавесками комната стала еще лучше! И уютнее, и красивее. А когда окна открыты и дует ветерок, так вообще даже романтично.
Наверное, очень уютно лежать в кровати в выходные, Когда ветерок треплет занавески, врывается во внутрь, и никуда не надо спешить. Красота!

If you don’t know what the reference is to, you must watch a couple of videos that became incredibly popular some number of years ago. It all started from a Budweiser Beer commercial. Then a number of spoof started to appear, with the Jewish one being my favorite. Then Budweiser itself created an alien one.
Anyhow, it all is pretty damn stupid, but nevertheless very funny.

Прочитав про фокусы Лёнчика трудно не рассмеяться: этот “фокусник” безошибочно угадывает одну из трех карт с третьей попытки.
А вообще этот Hilton нас что то сильно разочаровал. Уж слишком много мелких неприятностей они нам доставили.
Но в целом, отпуск - это всегда хорошо.

Спорт - это хорошо. Надо почаще выбираться! А какое блаженство потом настуцпает, когда делаешь медленные упражнения на растяжение мыцшц. Неописуемо.
НА счет сервиса, думаю. ты права. Как говорил классик про то, что рыба (не помню точно, по-моему, рыба) не может быть первого или второго и т.д. сорта. Есть только один сорт - высший. А все остальное элементарная халтура.
А вы решили сменить цвет на юзерпиках? Смотрится весело.
