Jewelcrafting & Mining

I’m having a lot of fun leveling a new profession in the expansion. Before I never really got any use of any professions and never got it to any high level (blacksmithing), so I decided to drop it and go for Jewelcrafting. Wanted to do something that not only I would benefit from, but also my friends and guildies. I bought a lot of materials before the expansion came out and was able to get it to 300 on the first day.

After that was done we ventured into Outlands and started questing. With questing I was trying to mine, but there were no mines to be found. Too many people wanting the same thing made leveling further impossible. One of the guildies (Volltok) gave me a great tip about finding Fel Iron Ore. The portal into Outlands was the answer. The area around it has no mobs and is full of mines. Most people get there and leave right away by taking a flight. However I don’t know how long this will stay a secret, so if you need Fel Iron, try checking that area out.

I’m using Gatherer to make the note of all the nodes and then just ride in circles. You can usually get a lot of ore very quickly and skill up your mining as well. I’m at 375 now, by primarily hitting the nodes around that area.

The Jewelcrafting however is stuck at 345 at the moment. There is hard spot to get through. All the stone cutting recipes end on 325 and the next time you can get any useful skills are at 350. So I’m almost there, even though it’s taking me about 15 gems to get a single skill up. Either way, so far it’s been fun, doing something new.

In NY Daily News

Interesting thing happened. If you saw some time ago, a journalist from New York Daily News left a comment on our blog about doing a small story on our wedding. Well, we contacted her, she set up an interview. We told her our story, and today it was published in a Sunday issue of Daily News.

Плов

Вчера я делала плов. Должна заметить, что сей процесс меня волновал до учашенного сердцебиения, ибо:

Мой муж хронически не любит рис;
Родился и вырос он (муж, кто ж еше?) в Ташкенте;
У его мамы золотые руки;
Я, с другой стороны, родилась и выросла в белорусской семье, где картошка, а вовсе не рис всему голова.

Моя мама тоже готовила “плов”. Не в обиду ей будет сказанно, с настояшим пловом он имел мало чего обшего.

Данины родители сообшили, что рисовая каша с мясом тоже является национальным узбекским блюдом и называется “шавля”. Однако меня терзают смутные сомнения, что даже она не готовится на свининке!! Но, чего уж греха таить, мамин “плов” я тоже любила.

Муж моей сестры - Мирвайс - родом из Афганистана. Он научил меня готовить плов (что самое смешное, моя сестра приучила его есть это блюдо с молоком). Рис он привозил из Москвы в больших 10 - киллограмовых мешках. Однако тот плов тоже имел мало чего обшего с узбекским пловом, к которому привык Даня (там был изюм, по-другому готовилась морковь, он был намного менее жирным, не включал в себя чеснок и фасоль). Наша бывшая Минская соседка т. Галя прожила много лет в Ташкенте и по профессии была поваром. Она иногда угошала нас своим пловом - ммм, очень вкусно!

По-хорошему, я могла бы спросить рецепт у Даниной мамы, но так как она была на работе, а мне “горело”, то рецепт я искала на кукинге. Прочитала много разных рецептов, в результате остановилась на чем-то среднем. Даже не знаю, писать тут или нет мой процесс приготовления? Может, в комментариях напишу, чтобы не делать пост суперогромным.

Получилось довольно неплохо. Правда, я забыла выключить газ (мне кажется, я повернула ручку не в ту сторону и увеличила огонь, вместо того, чтобы его затушить).

Так что мой бедный плов немного перепарился (всего ничего - дополнительных 2.5 часа).

Ирония заключается в том, что я даже открыла крышку кастрюли после того, как положила Дане добавку, потому что он сказал, что рис помягчел. Я решила, что тепло так хорошо сохраняется, что с закрытой крышкой он дотушивался! Ну ничего, хорошо хоть на ночь так не оставила.

Buring Crusade Has Started!

Yesterday, my inner geekiness has suppressed whatever else “inners” I had. We went to a midnight release of Burning Crusade in Manhattan. Two out of 8 BestBuy stores doing a midnight release were located in Manhattan. We just went to the closest one. After waiting in line for about 15 minutes, we got inside the store, where we waited for another 15 minutes and got our games. Wasn’t bad at all.

We bought 3 Limited Edition versions and 1 regular edition. The limited ones will go to Eldar, Maruk and myself. Alena didn’t think we need to spend another $30 more in order to get a 2nd LE edition for us. So the adventure begins! Again.

WoW UI Before “Burning Crusade”

Less then 7 hours is left until the official release of the first World of Warcraft expansion, Burning Crusade. We thought about going to a local store tonight (there are several in the area) for a midnight release, but it turns out you had to pre-order the game in order to get it tonight. Oh well, I guess we’ll just wait.

Before all of my UI stops working (which it always does with something changing in WoW) I wanted to post a current screen shot, and a list of mods I used. I’m not going to include the links, since they often change, sites seem to stop working, and versions constantly change, but you should be able to find them by searching on some of the popular sites such as Curse Gaming.

Out of the visible add-ons you have the following: (1) ag UnitFrames, (2) Titan Bars, (3) CT Viewport, (4) Simple Combat Log, (5) Drathals HUD, (6) Scrolling Combat Text, (7) Squeenix, (8) CT BuffMod, (9) Trinity Bars, (10) OmniCC (cooldown timers). The ones that are not visible, but still are a MUST: StanceSets, Grid (more for healing / decursing classes), Clique (same as one before), EquipCompare, CT Raid Assist, FastQuest (about to become needed again in the expansion) and DamageMeters. I’m sure I have left something important out, but these make the playing experience quite a bit nicer.

Either way, I hope we won’t have to wait way too long to find 2 copies of expansion. Jewelcrafting, level 70 and several other things await us!

Chan Chan

В прошлом семестре у нас был класс с интригующим названием “Communications”. Соль этого курса состояла в том, что каждый студент должен был подготовить и рассказать 4 речи в течение семестра. Преподаватель был, мягко говоря, вечно недовольным неудачником, ну да это не важно. Я совсем о другом хотела рассказать. Очень интересно было слушать некоторые речи. Выбор тем, несмотря на некоторые ограничители по типу речей (информативная, развлекательная, побуждающая к действию и т.п.), принадлежал нам. Одна девушка познакомила нас с ее любимой группой, играющей в стиле Afro-Cuban Jazz - Buena Vista Social Club. Во время презентации, она поставила кусочек их песни, которая запала мне в душу. Хочу поделиться - Chan Chan. Правда, меня терзают смутные сомнения, что мои музыкальные предпочтения несколько специфичны.

Курица с Помидорами

Кто о чём, а я снова о готовке.

Жду мУжика (ах, как же мне нравится это слово!) с работы и делаю его не очень-то любимую курицу. Я надеюсь, этот рецепт понравится даже ему. Нашла как всегда на Кукинге. У одной из моих любимых обитательниц этого форума - Irku. Ее рецепты часто приходятся мне по вкусу! Рецепт тут. Правда, я использовала не ножки, а грудки, так как Даня по ним спец.

Запах дома стоит обалденный. Я не удержалась и попробовала кусочек - очень сочно и нежно, с таким tomato-basil вкусом. Что мне нравится в этом рецепте, так это простота приготовления. Сколько я потратила времени на кухне - 10, 15 минут?

6 часов спустя: Ужин прошел (было обалденно вкусно), 8 эпизодов 5-го сезонa “24″ просмотренно… Ужас! Давно мы так долго перед теликом не сидели, но Даня меня сразу предупреждал, что остановиться смотреть этот увлекательный сериал будет сложно. Ой как прав он оказался!

Meat Pie

This recipe I found yesterday on Kuking.net forums. Both Danya and I liked the result. Since we took some pictures, I decided to post the recipe here in case somebody would like to try it:

For the dough:

100 gm. sour cream
100 gm. butter milk
100 gm. any oil (I took extra virgin olive oil)
1 egg
1 table spoon of mayo
1/2 teaspoon of salt
pinch of sugar
10 gm. baking powder
2,5 glasses of flour

Mix all the ingredients except flour and baking powder. Then shift flour and baking powder in and make a dough. Cover with a towel and let it rest for about an hour.

For the filling:

250 gm. lean ground pork
250 gm. ground beef
3 medium size onions
1 potato
3 cloves of garlic
50 ml. broth or water
pinch of ground coriander (I added about a teaspoon)
1 table spoon of starch
1 egg white
salt, pepper
handful of black olives
70 gm. of cheese (I added about a 110 gm. of Jack cheese)

Grate onions and a potato using a beet grater, add ground meat in. Add the rest of the ingredients except cheese and black olives, mix well.

Divide the dough in 2 parts. One part roll out to 1 sm thickness. Put the filling on top of it, leaving out the edges about 2 sm wide. Put diced cheese and olives into the filling. Roll out the second part of the dough and put it on top, pressing edges together. Brush the pie with a mixture of egg yolk and milk. Sprinkle with sesame and coriander seeds. Using a fork make couple of holes in the pie. Put into a preheated oven. Cook at 370 F degrees for 40 minutes or until golden brown.

Alena,

I was deliberating on what to cook last night and remembered that you tons of ideas on the site. And the prize goes to (drum role please ….) “Meat Pie”
It came out delicous. Everyone loved it. One little piece is left. I guess i jsut have to make more. Keep posting your new food idea. I look forward to them. Maybe one day Serezha mne tozhe zdelaet site so I can post mine as well.

И Снова о Свадьбах

Наверное, возраст такой… Выходят замуж подружки… Кто-то раньше, как Олик Вашкевич, кто-то позже, как я и Кузя. Сегодня Олик прислала мне фотки с Марининой свадьбы, которая состоялась, если я не ошибаюсь, в субботу, 6 января. Как-то заскучала прям по ним по всем. Вспомнились университетские наши времена - походы в кино, посиделки и разговоры, разговоры, разговоры…

Libertango

Натолкнулась на www.allofmp3.com на Libertango в исполнении Yo-Yo Ma. Написана сиё произведение было Astor Piazzolla. Мне очень нравится такая музыка! Ещё я, конечно, неравнодушна к звучанию родественника аккордеона - инструментa с довольно экзотичным для меня названием bandoneon. Аргентинские танго с чем-то там у меня в душе кликают в лад.

Впрочем, как и огненная музыка фламенко и разнообразные испанские гитарные мотивы.

Когда мы ходили гулять в Manhattan на прошлой неделе, то в переходе стали свидетелями небольшого выступления двух братьев - музыкантов, которые довольно неплохо играли на гитарах, при этом успевая петь и пританцовывать. Мы даже купили их CD, который довольно приятно слушать.

Вот и Наступил Новый Год

Вот и прошел праздник. Как-то немного грустно.

Новогоднюю ночь мы встретили у Даниных родителей. Хорошо так посидели, по-семейному. Папа на прошлой неделе купил ёлочку, мама и Линка наготовили кучу салатов (если я не ошибаюсь, примерно по 2 салатика на душу населения), фунчозу, мясо с картошкой и блинчики с клубникой. По русскому ТВ показывали Новогодние передачи, ну а в 12 ночи мы переключили канал и смотрели на известный шар в Times Squire.

2006 год был очень хорошим и знаменательным в моей жизни. Некоторые события подошли к долгожданному финалу, а некоторые наконец-то начались! Свадьба, учёба, встреча в Одессе с моей семьёй… Я очень надеюсь, что год Свиньи принесет нам много радости и запомнится не менее, чем прошедший год Собаки.

Мы остались ночевать у родителей. Так славно и спокойно спать на диване в зале!

Данька проснулся аж в начале 4го дня. Всю Новогоднюю ночь шел дождь…

Данюша подарил мне мультфильм “12 месяцев”. Мы с Людой часто его смотрели, уплетая за обе щёки салат “Оливье”, именно 1-го января! Вчера посмотрели его вместе с Маруками, которые зашли к нам в гости.
