Fog, Car and Plataforma

PlatformIt’s been rainy in New York last week. On Thursday we had quite a thunderstorm - had to close all the windows because of the heavy rain and lightning. Spooky sensation.

It’s often foggy during early and late hours because of the humidity. I like it when streets are covered in milky haze and vision is substantially limited (maybe it’s just because all my life I used to walk around with pretty poor eyesight without wearing any glasses or contacts, unless it was really necessary). I think bridges look very enigmatic in the mist hovering in the air. And for some unknown reason I love the sound that ships make when it’s foggy to warn other ships about their existence (not sure what’s the English expression for it), it makes me feel cosy.

On a different topic, some bastards broke into our car, while it was standing in the garage on Friday. Second time already. Daniel got paged by the alarm system and ran down as soon as possible, he even saw the guys who did it, but could do nothing. Nothing was stolen, they just didn’t have enough time, but they cut the wires that connect the accumulator in order to quiet down the alarm, so the car had to be repaired. Yesterday Daniel barely managed to start the car (he used boost cables to temporary connect the battery). Eh, this thing bothers us a lot. There is no guaranty that this will not happen again, and the management just doesn’t do anything to improve the level of security. It’s safer to park on the street than in the freaking payed garage. ( I wish it was easy to find parking around our apartment building.

Yesterday we went to a very fancy place for dinner. Brazilian restaurant Churrascaria Plataforma. Actually, my acquaintance with Brazilian style restaurants started with it more then 3 years ago (I think this particular place was recommended to Daniel by James). It’s all you can eat deal, but the way food is served is different from regular buffet or all-you-can-eat order in Japanese restaurant. Special staff carries variety of meat around on metal sticks. And if anybody desires slices of delicious beef, pork, lamb, you name it stakes, they will cut it off for you. To my great joy there was also a salad/seefood buffet in Churrascaria Plataforma, which had the delicious salads and mmmmmm (at this point I’m closing my eyes ecstatically) the best quality raw tuna. One more thing that delighted my senses was a life band. They played something jazzy, that IMHO helps digestion. )

I went to nail salon for pedicure-manicure yesterday, still happy about it (usually do it myself, but it’s never as good as when done by professionals). Daniel brought me flowers last Wednesday - that made me feel even more loved. ) We started watching “Babylon- 5″ and so far I really like it (it’s a science fiction television series, created by J. Michael Straczynski).
