Woohoo! Looks like I will be able to take a vaction at the end of June, or beginning of July.
Total of 9 days! Imagine the possibilities.
The plan is to take a drive somewhere. Things to remember are that we can’t take planes, and cross borders.
Possibilities:
Some problems with timing.
Alena can’t take time off in June, and first 2 weeks in July. I for sure can’t take it any later. I’m hoping that July 12 – July 20th won’t be a problem for me.

Some more about possible destinations:
- Orlando, Florida is a great place, but I’d rather go there during the winter. Now it might be too hot to be going around parks, and too many people, so lines could be enormous. Southern Florida would be to hot too.
- Maine — as opposed to Florida, considering the weather Maine could be too cold. We are just having first warm days, and we’ll still get rain.
- Colorado — seems like the best choice, since it’s out to the west. What are we going to do there though? Are there places for swimming? What else?

Just going to post some pics from my last trip to Colorado.
One of the things we can do is just walk around the city of Boulder, here are the pics.
This is the main street and its something like Arbat in Moscow, lots of performer and stuff. [pics] The town is pretty cool.
The city is popular because of three “Flat Irons”, three huge rocks that look like the bottom of an Iron. The park with a small road to the Flat Irons is located on the South side of the town. A bit up into the mountain is a great scenic overview from which Boulder is visible.
Then we can take a drive to Denver, which is a pretty cool city all on its own. Though I don’t have pics of it. The must go place is Estes Park, which is a 20 minute drive from Boulder. I do not have all the pics of Estes park with me, but I will post of the area AROUND Estes park.
Some of the things we can do in Estes Park:
-Horse Riding
-Boating
-Kayaking (Swimming in Canoes)
-Biking (Although I think we will not have many biking enthusiasts save for Moisha)
In this pic, the Estes Park village is closed by the tree line. [pic]
This is the famous Stanley Hotel, this is where Stephen King’s Shining was filmed and written. Its the only place which we will NOT even consider staying at.
Here is a map of the Rocky Mountain National Forest, the highest peak around the road is 12000 feet. There are many great scenic overlooks throughout the road and the trip there is worth it even if you’re afraid of heights.
A “Continental Devide” passes throught these mountains, so if you have not been to the West Coast, then you will be by the dime you drive through the park.
Here is the list of things that can be done in the park, take notice that not all of the park is snow.
-Auto Touring
-Backpacking
-Biking
-Bird Watching
-Camping
-Climbing
-Cross Country Skiing
-Fishing
-Hiking
-Horseback Riding
-Mountaineering
-Snow Skiing
-Stargazing
-Wilderness Area
-Wildlife Viewing
This is the official list.
On the “other” side of the Park you’re still not clear of rockys but end up in “Hidden Valley” a valley between two mountain ranges.
Here is a pic of Colorado river at its roots, further south (the way the camera is pointing in the pic) is the Grand Lake and two other lakes. [pic]
Things you can do in Grand Lake:
-Horse Riding
-ATV and Dirt Bike rentals
-Boat rentals
-Looking at mountain and plenty other stuff I guess since I’ve only been there for less then an hour. Think of this place like lake George only better.
Additional stuff that can be done around Boulder and other area:
-Hang/Para Gliding (Boulder)
-Balooning(Estes Park)
-Gliding(Boulder)
-Rafting(Estes Park)
-Snowmobiling(Grand Lake)
-Six Flags(Denver)
Camping is also avaliable at the Rocky Mountain National Forest, although everything might be reserved and Colorado has very strict fire rules due to forest fires last year.

Ok, all that looks great, but SNOW scares me. I’m really tired of winter/bad weather, and I want it to by warm and sunny on my vacation.
Also you didn’t mention swimming. Is there a good beach + swimming area?
Dates update: Alena’s manager has agreed to give her a week off at the end of June, which is great. This greatly increases my chances of actually getting time off.
So we are either going on these dates: June 21 – June 29, or we aren’t going anywhere at all. Now I hope things don’t change around here.
P.S. I also like the idea of Kayaking (or how is that spelled). Maybe we can rent water bikes somewhere? Man, I’m still thinking Florida. Better damn hot, then somewhat cold.

Sorry dude, but 21-29 is not a good time for me. I won’t be able to take a vacation at work.
June 12, 2003 @ 10:27
Bah! How come? This sux. So no Colorado for us then, since we wouldn’t have an idea of what to do there, and where.
June 12, 2003 @ 10:34
My manager is out for three weeks, and co-workers are out on vacations so I’m the only one left in the whole group for the next two weeks. Plus I need to make a two week notice to take a vacation.
